Two UNESCO Global Geoparks in Henan sign cooperation agreements with Finland’s Rokua Geopark

        Recently, two UNESCO Global Geoparks in Henan, namely, Mt. Yuntaishan UNESCO Global Geopark and Mt. Funiushan UNESCO Global Geopark, have respectively signed cooperation agreements with Finland’s Rokua UNESCO Global Geopark, marking an important step towards international cooperation and exchange.

        Rokua Geopark, accepted into the UNESCO’s Global Geoparks Network (GGN) in 2010, is the only tourist destination in Finland to have UNESCO Global Geopark status. In addition to this, Rokua Geopark is the northernmost UNESCO Global Geopark in the world, whose story is embedded in the history of the unique bedrock of the geopark that spans millennia from the Ice Age. Rokua Geopark features unique glacial landforms, innovative forms of popular science education, distinctive agricultural plantation means, breathtaking outdoor ice-snow sports, et cetera, attracting tens of thousands of tourists from all over the world. The aforementioned Mt. Yuntaishan Geopark and Mt. Funiushan Geopark are also characterized by their rich and diverse topographic features and landforms including mountains, canyons forests and so on and so forth. Their cooperation with Rokua Geopark boasts strong complementarity and huge potential for future development.

        The attempts for international exchange and cooperation made by Mt. Yuntaishan UNESCO Global Geopark and Mt. Funiushan UNESCO Global Geopark not only echo the call of the UNESCO International Geoscience and Geological Park (IGGP) for boosting interconnectivity but also blaze a trail for other global geoparks in Henan Province to follow suit.
