In September 2025, China's first National Science Popularization Month was officially launched. During this period, to arouse teenagers' enthusiasm for exploring nature and ecology, the Conservation and Development Center of Nanyang Funiu Mountain Geopark and the Baotianman Administration meticulously organized a themed study tour for science popularization. More than 40 children who love nature turned into "little botanists" and embarked on a natural science journey that provided them with knowledge and fun in a list of activities such as outdoor study tour, science popularization film watching, and interesting practive.

The first stop of the activity was the outdoor plant study tour, which became the "first class" for children to explore nature. Under the guidance of Baotianman's study tour teachers, the children walked along the Tuanhe River. Every plant within their sight became a vivid "teaching material". The teachers explained the plants in vivid language. "Wow, what beautiful flowers! Some are pink and some are white. What kind of flowers are these, teacher?" A little girl jumped up excitedly. The study tour teacher immediately warned, "Don't touch them, kids! These are oleanders. Never be deceived by their beautiful appearance. The entire plant of oleander is poisonous. You must not touch or eat any part of it, leaves, flowers or sap. This is also an important piece of knowledge we need to remember when learning about plants!" The children widened their eyes and stepped back nervously in unison. The teacher added, "Don't be afraid, everyone! Although oleanders are poisonous, it's totally fine to admire them from a distance. They are great at purifying the air!" With the chirping questions and exclamations, the children learned about more than ten kinds of plants such as glossy privet, crape myrtle and oleander, and also mastered the methods of identifying plants by their leaves and flowers through practice.

After the outdoor study tour, the children went to the Baotianman Administration to watch the science and education introductory videos for "National Science Popularization Month" and Funiushan UNESCO Global Geopark together. In the introductory videos, the overview of Funiushan UNESCO Global Geopark, the Cretaceous strata of Nanyang Dinosaur Egg Fossil National Nature Reserve, ancient organisms (dinosaur egg fossils), red bed landforms, and the overall ecological landscape of Baotianman Reserve were presented one by one. This further deepened the children's understanding of natural ecology, and the seeds of environmental protection took root quietly in their hearts.

At the end of the activity, the interesting board games and lacquer fan making experience sessions pushed the atmosphere to a climax. In the science popularization board game session, the children were divided into groups to participate in ecological board games such as "Birds Gather Together" and "Elephants Go Home". "It turns out that birds need so many different kinds of trees to make their homes!" "It's so hard for elephants to find their way home!" Amidst the children's laughter, the awareness of environmental protection took root and sprouted quietly. This game made the abstract concept of environmental protection concrete and perceptible. In the lacquer fan making session, the children gave full play to their imagination and painted patterns of Baotianman’s animals and plants on the fans. "I want to give this fan with a bird painted on it to my mom, and tell her that there are many lovely animals in Baotianman, and we should protect them together," said an excited child who participated in the activity.

For a long time, Baotianman of Funiu Mountain Global Geopark has been committed to high-quality ecological science popularization and continuously explored and designed natural study tour courses featuring "immersive experience + interactive learning". This study tour activity, from outdoor plant recognition to ecological board game interaction, closely focused on the characteristics of Baotianman's ecological resources. It not only allowed the children to feel the beauty of nature up close, but also made the concept of ecological protection take root in their hearts through interesting forms. In the future, Baotianman of Funiu Mountain Global Geopark will continue to launch more high-quality study tour activities to help teenagers become little “ambassadors” who love the nature and guard the ecology.
