Ecological Science Popularization into Campus, Lighting Up Students' Green Dreams
Release time:2025-05-15 Reading times:
On May 13th, Baotianman Global Biosphere Reserve, jointly with Neixiang Area of Funiushan UNESCO Global Geopark, entered the venue of the 2025 Campus Science and Technology Week at Neixiang County Experimental Junior High School, kicking off a scientific exploration journey themed by natural ecology.
At the activity site, Baotianman Global Biosphere Reserve exhibited a list of animal and plant specimens as well as popular science exhibits. Our students were attracted by vivid animal specimens such as wolves, wild boars, and golden cats. They were gathered around to watch with awe and curiosity about wild animals, while marveled by the robust posture of the wild boars and the alert expressions of the golden cats. Meticulously mounted plant specimens like the Cypripedium franchetii, Anemone altaica, and Paeonia obovata were neatly arranged and veins of each plant were clearly visible. They formed a nature classroom which enabled the abstract knowledge of plant morphological structures from textbooks to be visible and tangible. The colorful butterfly specimens, the eye-catchers of this exhibition, seemed like frozen works of art. Moreover, the collection year and location were specially marked on the specimens, telling their life stories in the primeval forest of Baotianman.
The volunteers from Baotianman Global Biosphere Reserve and Funiushan UNESCO Global Geopark were turned into messengers of nature. They shared with the students brochures of hundreds of species in Baotianman, including birds and flowers, as well as popular science reading materials such as the Funiushan UNESCO Global Geopark album and the Nanyang Zhugelong atlas. They opened a window from which the children explore the primeval forest of Baotianman. The volunteers also vividly introduced to the students that Baotianman is the only global biosphere reserve in the Central Plains and the core area of Funiushan UNESCO Global Geopark. The primeval forest in Baotianman is filled with the natural code signifying harmonious coexistence of the diverse species inhabited there.
During the event, the volunteers also led the students to experience ecological board games such as "Birds Gathering", "Elephant Going Home", and "Low-Carbon Traveler". Through these games, the students made sense the importance of protecting bird habitats, caring for wild animals, and practicing a low-carbon lifestyle. By connecting the knowledge from the games with the conservation work in Baotianman, the students established an ecological protection concept.
The work of Baotianman Global Biosphere Reserve and Funiushan UNESCO Global Geopark carried out in the Campus Science and Technology Week at Neixiang County Experimental Junior High School injected the elements of natural science into campus science and technology. It enabled the students to feel the charm of modern science and technology while deeply understanding the natural ecology around them. The event opened a window for the students to understand the mysteries of Baotianman. In the future, Baotianman Global Biosphere Reserve and Funiushan UNESCO Global Geopark will continue to provide more opportunities for the public and teenagers to understand nature and explore ecology through diversified activities, jointly enhancing harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
